Morecambe Carnival is back thanks to local businessman David Brayshaw.
During a night out with friends in Morecambe, the conversation had inevitably turned to Morecambe’s demise as a tourist destination, the closure of pubs and small shops and how sad it was that so many businesses had closed.
David decided that rather than just bemoan the situation, he could do something positive to give the resort a much needed boost.
David was born in 1962 at the Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, David is officially ‘sand grown’ and whilst he didn’t experience Morecambe in its heyday of the post war era, he has fond memories of growing up in Heysham during the 70’s and 80’s and making use of the wealth of facilities that Morecambe had to offer in those days.
In particular, the Morecambe & Heysham Carnival was a highlight of the summer season and always seem to draw huge crowds, creating a great sense of community spirit.
David runs a local Water Treatment & Swimming Pool company, Aqua Engineering Systems Ltd and feels strongly about both employing local people and wherever possible, doing business with companies from the local area, thus helping to fund the local economy.
He has many friends and business contacts in the area and he felt confident that he could draw on the support of these individuals to support the re-introduction of the Carnival for 2014.
A quick canvass of opinion was unanimously positive and David quickly assembled a committee of like-minded individuals, made up of local business with The Bay Radio on board as the main sponsor.
After several meetings it now seems that this is actually happening!
We hope you will agree that by bringing back the Morecambe Carnival for 2014, we can inject some much needed ‘feel good factor’ and generate some positive publicity for the resort.
