Festivals and Events Funding Shake Up
Many people will have heard on Facebook and in a previous post about the recent Morecambe Town Council Festivals and Events Sub Committee proposal to pull funding from festivals and events, and instead run their own series of events. Many believe, including the Morecambe Carnival Team that this threatens the continuation of many regular festivals and events as well as the continued revival of the town.
This proposal seems to fly in the face of the very thing that this Sub Committee is supposed to do. Support the events and festivals of Morecambe.
The Morecambe Carnival 2014 did not receive funding from the Town Council. The organising committee turned down the small sum of money that was offered to the carnival effort. This was due to what our committee felt were unfair restrictions and conditions that accepting the money would have imposed.
Its Time To Get Involved – Have Your Say
Our Morecambe Carnival sponsors and partners The Bay Radio have been reporting on this developing festival and event funding situation. A report late last week highlighted that the Morecambe Labour councillors are opposing this proposal. The Festivals and Events Sub Committee is lead by The Morecambe Bay Independents.
Furthermore The Bay are now running an online survey of people’s opinion on this funding shakeup. They are also keen to get peoples feelings on the current offering of festivals and events that are held in Morecambe throughout the year. Including what people’s impression of The 2014 Morecambe Carnival was.
Head over to The Bay to have your say on this mater. Click for The Bay Events Survey.
You can also voice any concerns you have over this proposal to YOUR councillor. They are there to represent you. Click for Morecambe Councillor list.
Rest assured with a hugely successful first year under our belts the next Morecambe Carnival is on course and we hope to put on an even bigger and better event in 2015.
